Little Sugar Legs |
I got a surprise this year for Christmas. Well, I got LOTS of surprises but this was from someone unexpected; surprise! from a surprise. It was a gift check with the instructions that it only be spent on thing/s that bring me joy. So nice! JOY!
There is an artist. Well, there are MANY artists whose work I love. But I have been infatuated with The Creeplys lately. I found them on Instagram and have been hearting everything Amber posts.
One night I was just about to read myself to sleep when she posted that there was ONE PAIR OF LITTLE SUGAR LEGGINGS LEFT. Like, she doesn't make that many...at all. I remember the last time they went around I was like biting my nails. I thought, wellllllll, I'll just wait until morning and if she still has them they were meant to be.
I read a few words. I re-read a few words.......
FORGET THAT! if I don't get them NOW I will be kicking myself tomorrow. JOY JOY JOY they bring me joy! and she sent them via the warp zone so it was like I didn't even need any patience. Instajoy.
I might have gotten another little something from her. .... but I guess we'll have to see wait and see. There is a greater purpose to this other-something. It's like a joy to welcome other little joys. Like how you're supposed to wish for unlimited wishes if you meet a genie.
So it's true that I haven't been writing much lately.
I got stuck. I don't want to feel like I have to write on a schedule and have everything be pin-worthy or spectacular. I just love to write...and the joy was being sucked away from that. When I was on LiveJournal it was like WHOA I JUST DRANK GOOD TEA! and everyone would be like RIGHT ON! GOOD TEA! and we'd just be happy (or argue about which is actually best or if tea should even be in the running for best drink) - you catch my drift. I just want to write what I want, when I want, with no rhyme or reason.
I'm breaking out of the box.
You know who else is on LJ? GEORGE RR MARTIN. Yeah, that's right. Dorks know.
But this post is actually inspired by Stephen King. In his book On Writing (yes, I'm still reading that!) he passes on some tools:
I want to suggest that to write to your best abilities, it behooves you to construct your own toolbox and then build up enough muscle so you can carry it with you. Then, instead of looking at a hard job and getting discouraged, you will perhaps seize the correct tool and get immediately to work.
That is what I was doing. Becoming overwhelmed. I'd think of some great topic to pour my heart and soul into and then just think it was as tall as The Wall (yeah, let's bring it back full dork-circle). I just can't do that to myself.
I also never want to start each entry with:
- I know it's been a long time since I updated last...
- It's been so long since I've written!
- I promise I'll be better about posting.
No. I am going to write for joy.
To be continued..........................................on a non-scheduled post. at a non-scheduled time.
Hope everyone's Christmas was lovely!
