Baby's first apple picking adventure! |
Who doesn't remember their trips to pick apples and pumpkins in the fall with fondness? Children will often re-write their day, skipping over the uncomfortable parts only to chirp about the happy wonders they choose to keep with them. If only we remembered to do that half as often as adults!
I had to run some errands in the morning setting Tee's schedule teeter-tottering from the beginning. We thought the rain would wash our apple-picking plans away but the heat and humidity rose instead. After all, summer only ended yesterday.
While Brooke & I had fun, Tee had...an experience! He felt straw beneath his legs, bumblebees landing on his knees, bumpy pumpkins, curling gourds, and plucked a leaf from a tree. His eyes were heavy with sleepiness, then they filled with tears and burst!
Oh no! We picked out our farmstand treats (pear butter, tulip honey, purple potatoes), visited the pumpkin patch (two littles - one white, one orange), then got our wagon for the orchard. Golden delicious trees all in a row. Tee lost his marbles among the fallen apples. It was time to call it a day.
When we walked in the door I laid him down to change his diaper. Immediately he lit up, his face animated, his voice lilting! He explained that he remembered the day with joy and glee and with a squee! We snuggled together and he told me some more...before drifting into apple-scented dreams.

Here is how he remembers it:
P.S. Happy Birthday, Mom/Gramma!!!
