With This Ring

Most people don't know that Bee & I have matching wedding rings. He found them on Etsy after looking at 100's of other rings - the minute he saw them he knew they were The Ones. I agreed, after all, they had an astro-theme. His is called Stary Night - mine, Craters. He has always chosen very unique gifts for me. Like a teal and neon orange quail-patterned pillow. Who finds something like that? My guy!

So anyway, he found our rings and then they were handmade for us in Israel. When they arrived they were nestled in precious packaging along with a note of well-wishes.

Mine didn't fit.

!

It was so sad!

I could return it to her to be fixed or have it stretched locally. We'd bought a sizer before making the purchase and I was a perfect size 6. I'd been sized six months before by several jewellers on Jewellers' Row. Size 6. That's a solid six.

Procrastination took over and then the fire happened. The only two reasons I was allowed up the morning after the fire was because I knew where our wedding rings and prescriptions were. I was trembling as I crawled through the wreckage of our home but I had hidden them deep in a drawer with a clothing cocoon. The box was ruined but the rings were perfect.

There was another ring, though; my grandmother's. Both she and my grandfather passed away many years ago - over a decade before I met Bee - but the ring had been given quite specifically for me to wear. I knew they would have given it to Bee with blessings.

I chose to wear that one for our wedding. We would stretch Crater at a later date. On special occasions I have worn it around my neck with a cluster of Betsey Johnson chains that also survived the fire. Something about me likes to bury special things in scented drawers.

When the weather turned and autumn arrived over the weekend my hands turned cold. You see, I have terrible circulation (also from my grandfather). But, voila! The ring slid on with ease while my grandmother's became a twinkly hula hoop on my finger.

Nails done in strawberry-scented polish.

That is the story behind our rings <3
