Little boy, little lion...

Unleashed at the park.

When I took Tristan to the museum recently I was struck with a thought that I never thought I'd have in my whole life: should I get him a leash? It's yet another thing that I have picked on other parents for while their backs are turned, passing judgment (I'd never do that! Can't they control their kid?) without knowing what I was talking about. Shameful, but we all do it, though that's no excuse. One day life pops up and says, Never Say Never! and then laughs as you eat your words.

Now Tristan has a leash. It's a cute one! It's his Lion Leash and now lives in his car seat by the front door awaiting adventures. It leads a double life as an adorable backpack with a pocket for its tail (leash) and whatever other treasures he'll one day want to tuck inside.

It arrived Monday so I've been letting him wear Lion and get used to how he feels.

Next time we're mixed in a crowd I know that Lion will be with us in my bag and I can use it just in case, because which is worse? a leash or an Amber Alert?

  1. Seems reasonable. I mean, you had one for your cat way back when, right? I had no idea cat leashes even existed until I met you. Not that there should be exact parallels... but he's a little guy you love a lot whom you don't want running off into danger, so I guess the same concept still applies. And the lion is awfully cute.

  2. Thanks! Exactly! If I'd put a leash on my cat, why on earth not my child :D

  3. I've totally been thinking when my little guy is old enough to get in trouble to get one of those. As silly as it sounds and yes I too used to comment on people putting leashes on their children. Then I had one of my own and even though he doesn't even crawl yet it has crossed my mind how precious his is. That and I think of all the trouble I got in as a kid for disappearing in department stores and what not. -_^

  4. I know! What was up with that? I would leave for what felt like hours picking pins off the floor. That was a different era ;)

So far the reactions have been "awwww" but I haven't clipped the tail on yet. My plan is to use it as hand-holding back-up. We'll see how it goes in the wild!
